May is Older Americans Month

The Administration on Aging (http://tinyurl.com/3z8lbhc) has deemed May as Older Americans Month. Every year is a different theme and this year’s theme is; Connecting the Community. What a wonderful way to celebrate our aging population and how they bring inspiration and vitality to our communities. It also makes us aware of all the new technology that is helping older Americans live longer, healthier and more productive lives.

By celebrating Older Americans Month we are showing our appreciation and support to our senior citizens, which often times goes unsaid or not noticed. With all the new advances in medicine and technology our seniors are out even more than before in the community. They are volunteering in our schools, libraries, government offices and senior centers trying to give back and make a difference.

Help celebrate Older Americans Month by recognizing the value that our seniors bring to our communities. This is also a good time to think about what you can do to help them continue playing an important part in our lives.

Check out your local Senior Center or ASAP for activities and events going on through out the month.
