Springtime fun for seniors – time to re-connect with the outdoors

Daylight-savings time is the perfect excuse to make adjustments to your normal routine. Change is always a refresher in the making. Your home care provider can help you with these changes. Small changes will bring a smile to your face.

If your mobile (either walking or in a wheelchair), take a walk together and notice the changing season around you. Smell the fresh air, notice the crocus poking their flowers through the ground, maybe even see the forsythias are beginning to blossom. Don’t forget our feathered friends the robins they should be back from down south. Your senses will be awakened by getting outside, the smells are different, birds are singing and landscapes will be turning color. Take a drive around your community. If you are unable to leave the house, hang a bird feeder in the window and station yourself with a pair of binoculars in view of the feeder and identify which birds appear. Take the time to take it all in.

Take a moment to relax and catch up over a cup of tea on the porch, or next to an open window. Breathe in that fresh air. If it’s warm enough outside, possibly open a few windows and air out the house. Reminisce and share your springtime memories with your home care worker.

Feeling the warmth of sun on your face is a mood booster; catch some of that natural vitamin D. When the sun is shining and weather is warm, people tend to be happier. Take this time to enjoy the changing weather and each other’s company.
